As a solutions-focused litigator, Catarina assists clients in a wide variety of labor and employment matters.
It’s a natural practice area for an attorney who’s passionate about working on issues that directly affect individuals and helping clients solve problems. As a litigator, Catarina has always understood that at the core of any legal matter is a human problem – a client worry – and is eager to strategize in finding the optimal solution to get clients back to business efficiently and cost-effectively.
Her experience includes equal rights and discrimination, retaliation claims, wage and hour issues, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) matters and Title VII actions, and she has worked with the firm’s major clients from the beginning of her career. As a diverse professional herself, Catarina also brings a unique perspective to the discrimination claims she works on: her understanding of cultural considerations fosters respect between parties and often leads to a quicker resolution.
While Catarina is primarily a litigator, she also provides proactive counsel to clients, seeking to prevent problems before they occur. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she has directly supported affected businesses and helped clients navigate new legal issues. Catarina has frequently assisted with interpretation of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act and its leave provisions, advised on furlough and termination decisions, and drafted separation agreements.
