Tara’s practice – identifying, registering and enforcing client trademarks – perfectly intersects her legal and public relations skills.
Tara works closely with clients at every stage of the trademark process in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, technology and transportation, and, most recently, the evolving cannabis industry.
Tara’s trademark practice is three-fold. She first assists clients with identification of trademarks and other intellectual property. If these assets are unregistered, she then conducts a thorough trademark clearance search, and creates custom strategies for protection of these marks on the federal and state levels. Second, Tara counsels clients through the application process and subsequent maintenance filings with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Finally, she helps with enforcement of trademarks, determining how to best assert client rights against unauthorized third-party users.
Educating clients on the proper use and proactive protection of trademarks and intellectual property under applicable federal and state laws is key for Tara. She presents on topics such as choosing a strong trademark and online enforcement strategies for businesses. Tara also works with legal cannabis clients to choose and protect trademarks in this evolving space. In addition, she handles copyright registration and enforcement work for clients and counsels businesses in the creation and operation of promotions and contests.
