Overview

Fred focuses his practice on clients related to manufacturing and technology, but his interest in the field began long ago.

After earning his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering but before attending law school, he worked as an engineer for a company that supplied automated machinery to all three U.S. automakers (as well as their suppliers), medical equipment manufacturers and computer device manufacturers.

Today, Fred has 20 years of legal experience with the acquisition, protection, enhancement and enforcement of intellectual property rights, including matters involving patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. He is involved in all phases of patent prosecution, including appeals and international applications. Fred handles multiple aspects of securing, defending and enforcing trademarks, including U.S. and international applications, oppositions and cancellations.

For example, he:

  • Handles all of the intellectual property work for an engineer/manufacturer of valves and metering and dispensing technology.
  • Represents a manufacturer of advanced battery systems with its patent prosecution matters in the U.S. and around the world.
  • Coordinates all intellectual property-related work for one of America’s largest suppliers of rigid packaging.

He also has experience with a wide range of corporate transactions involving intellectual property — including drafting and negotiating license agreements and technology development agreements — and is extensively involved with intellectual property litigation. In addition, Fred assists clients with e-commerce and computer-related business transactions, such as website development and hosting agreements, domain name transfers, and software licenses and development agreements.
