Bill Schenkelberg

Senior State and Local Tax Consultant

As a former c-suite executive, Bill knows businesses and their accounting needs inside and out.

Bill brings 20 years of experience at large public accounting firms, at one time serving as a firm’s national partner managing the state and local tax practice.

Today, Bill continues to focus on state and local taxation, advising Husch Blackwell clients on the nuances of complicated and evolving tax issues. He consults on tax issues, controversies, and audit defense, helping clients throughout the entire audit process. If litigation occurs, Bill provides a seamless transition and support to the firm’s attorneys and litigators. Having bought and sold companies during his time in the c-suite, he has a unique perspective when performing due diligence and advising on the various tax matters that arise during business transactions. Finally, Bill has experience with managing unclaimed property projects.

Bill has a passion for business and business operations that dates back to his undergraduate years. After his time with accounting firms, he moved in-house, serving as a chief financial officer, a chief operations officer and a chief executive officer—roles where he focused not only on finances and operations but on strategic paths forward for the companies.

Bill’s c-suite experience gives him a deep understanding of the client perspective, and he immediately grasps clients’ needs and goals. At the end of the day, he sees his role as helping people and their companies succeed.

Outside the Office

Bill enjoys family, food and football.

An amateur chef, Bill has competed in a few Kansas City Barbecue Society Barbecue Competitions, where he has had entries place a few times. He’s also a season ticket holder for University of Iowa football, supporting his alma mater as often as he can.

Most important to Bill is his family. Recently becoming “empty nesters,” he and his wife cherish any time they get to spend with their children who are attending college.
