Overview

Laura solves problems for mortgage lenders, mortgage servicers, and other consumer financial services clients.

Laura represents clients in disputes arising from federal and state consumer protection laws, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), and the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act (CFA). However, her goal is often to resolve these matters before they descend into full litigation: after multiple in-house stints, she understands how expensive and all-consuming litigation can be, and she has built a reputation for finding creative resolutions as early in the process as possible.

Early in her career, Laura began representing a multinational automotive manufacturing company in litigation related to auto financing. Her experience grew from there to include mortgage lending (her primary focus today) and she quickly developed a fascination for the facts and human stories behind mortgage cases. Always a problem solver, she especially loved that consumer financial litigation generally represented problems that the law—and Laura’s assistance—could fix.

After a secondment in the mortgage office of a national bank, Laura moved to in-house work, serving as assistant general counsel for a leading loan subservicing provider and senior counsel to a provider of home loan, loan servicing, and refinance products. In both roles, she managed and litigated matters nationally, including suits with affirmative claims, contested foreclosures, appeals, and class actions.

Laura’s time in-house means that she readily understands clients’ world, from the demands on in-house counsel’s time to the many internal stakeholders involved. She knows in-house budgets aren’t unlimited, and she has a sharp instinct for which cases should be litigated and which should be settled. Known for her talent at winnowing down exactly what clients and their own internal clients need to know, Laura offers clients the insight they need to manage nationwide litigation.
