Joe is an intellectual property (IP) litigator who helps clients protect their businesses, safeguard their IP rights, and maintain their ability to compete in the marketplace. He primarily represents large corporations with established portfolios of patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets—whether enforcing those rights or defending against claims of infringement.
Joe works across all stages of litigation, from initial investigation and pleadings through trial. He is often brought in to address discrete issues that evolve into broader litigation, quickly developing a deep understanding of the underlying technology and legal claims. Particularly in patent matters, he focuses on mastering the relevant science to inform strategy and deliver effective advocacy.
Prior to joining Husch Blackwell, Joe practiced at a regional law firm. Before beginning his practice, he served as a judicial clerk to the Hon. Pamela A.W. King in Minnesota’s Third Judicial District, sharpening his ability to analyze legal issues from the court’s perspective and to craft clear, persuasive arguments. Earlier in his career, Joe worked as a research associate at multiple biotechnology startups, giving him firsthand insight into the time, investment, and innovation clients devote to building their IP—as well as what is at stake in protecting it.
This diverse background allows him to approach matters with both technical fluency and business awareness. He understands not only the legal and financial implications of IP disputes, but also the personal investment clients have in their work. Known for his collaborative style, Joe ensures clients are informed and engaged throughout the litigation process, treating each matter with focus and urgency.
A former Division I athlete, Joe brings a competitive mindset to his practice. He approaches each case with discipline and drive, viewing every matter as an opportunity to achieve the best possible outcome for clients.
