Stan draws on three decades of experience at the National Labor Relations Board in his representation of labor and employment clients.
Motivated by his family’s working-class background, Stan entered the University of Kansas School of Law with an interest in labor matters. With the encouragement of a law professor, Stan went to work as field attorney for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in the Kansas City regional office. Over the next 30 years, Stan investigated and prosecuted hundreds of unfair labor practice (ULP) allegations against employers and labor organizations. In addition to the handling of ULP allegations, Stan was involved in the processing of representation petitions including conducting elections for employees to fairly exercise their choice of whether to have or not have union representation and served as a hearing officer in related administrative processes. He represented the agency in federal district and bankruptcy courts.
During the last seven years of his tenure with the NLRB, Stan was the deputy regional attorney for NLRB Region 17. In that role he supervised teams of attorneys and investigators and was involved in all regional determinations on the prosecutorial merit of ULP allegations, trial strategies, and settlement discussions.
For several years Stan was a chapter contributor and editor for The Developing Labor Law (ABA/BNA). He has been a frequent presenter on labor issues to business associations, trade organizations, labor organizations, and ABA-sponsored seminars.
At Husch Blackwell, Stan primarily guides employers through the NLRB processes, including the handling of election petitions and litigation of unfair labor practice complaints, the education of employees about the realities of union representation, and the arbitration of grievances brought under a collective-bargaining agreement.
