Kay defends clients in complex commercial litigation.
Kay’s path to law school was inspired by many fantastic attorney mentors and coaches during the years they competed in mock trial throughout high school and college. Their competitive spirit, inclination toward teamwork, analytical approach to problem-solving, and strong writing skills made litigation a natural fit. They were especially drawn to commercial litigation because of the diversity of industry areas and the complex, challenging cases it offers.
During law school, Kay’s most rewarding experience was their time as a student attorney in WashU’s Appellate Clinic, where they developed a strong commitment to pro bono work. This clinic provided Kay’s first opportunity to advocate for real clients on important civil rights matters. They also competed on WashU’s Trial Team, winning a Regional Championship and competing at the National Championship.
As a summer associate at Husch Blackwell, Kay engaged in substantial legal research, drafting motions, assessing the viability of legal strategies, and shadowing depositions. Their judicial externship with the District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri also provided valuable insights into persuasive writing, as well as the importance and means of maintaining credibility with the court.
Kay is known for their creative approaches to legal issues, thorough assessment of options, detail-oriented nature, and strong analytical skills. A well-prepared team player, they continually seek opportunities to learn and adapt.
