Husch Blackwell is pleased to announce that Thomson Reuters will release today the 2017 edition of Edward Manzo’s The America Invents Act: A Guide to Patent Litigation and Patent Procedure, including key updates concerning recent administrative trials before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). First appearing in 2013, the book provides a comprehensive guide to changes in patent law brought about by the America Invents Act, which was signed into law in 2011 and hailed as one of the most significant changes to the U.S. patent system since the 1950s.
Manzo is a Chicago-based partner in Husch Blackwell’s Technology, Manufacturing & Transportation industry group and a long-time authority on patent law and litigation. He has handled several notable patent disputes since the passage of the AIA, including last month’s victory before the Federal Circuit on behalf of Luv N’ Care, Ltd., a leading manufacturer and distributor of baby accessories, in which the appeals court affirmed an earlier favorable decision from PTAB.
Manzo is widely published in the patent field. In the addition to the AIA desk book, Manzo has authored or co-authored reference works on patent claim interpretation law and has co-authored the pattern jury instructions (patents) adopted in 2008 by the U.S. Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit, and the local patent rules adopted in 2009 by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. One of his books on claim construction has been cited by the U.S. Supreme Court and several federal district courts.
