News Releases

Husch Blackwell announced today that litigator Ryan Sugden has joined the firm as a partner in its Real Estate, Development, & Construction team. He is based in Denver and joins Husch Blackwell from Stinson.

Sugden is a seasoned first-chair litigator who represents businesses in commercial real estate, land use, construction, and energy disputes. His litigation experience includes obtaining multimillion-dollar jury verdicts, motions victories, and negotiating complex settlements for his clients.

“Ryan is highly respected in the Denver market and adds meaningful depth to our real estate litigation practice,” said Jon Giokas, partner and leader of Husch Blackwell’s more than 100-attorney RDC team. “He brings a strong trial background and a practical, business-minded approach that aligns well with how we serve clients. Ryan is entrepreneurial, collaborative, and focused on helping clients move complex matters forward, which makes him a great fit for our team and firm. We’re excited to welcome him to Husch Blackwell and look forward to the impact he’ll have for our clients across the country.”

Sugden has deep real estate and construction litigation experience—from helping clients obtain the permits needed to start a new development, to defending owners and contractors in construction disputes, to representing landowners after a property is developed. He is also an experienced litigator of energy industry disputes. He has represented power plant owners in lawsuits concerning imprudent and negligent operations and construction defects and delays.

“Husch Blackwell has an outstanding national reputation,” Sugden said. “My clients will not only benefit from the strong real estate transactional and finance partners, but also the tremendous depth that will support their growing needs. I look forward to continuing to expand the firm’s presence in Denver and its real estate capabilities.”

In 2025, Husch Blackwell expanded its Real Estate, Development, & Construction team with the additions of partners Kati Orso, Steven Katkov, and Erin Hughes in offices across the country.
