Husch Blackwell has long been known as one of the top law firms in the country for successfully transitioning our attorneys to general counsel and chief legal counsel roles. We know that attorneys come to Husch Blackwell to grow their careers, and we are committed to providing meaningful professional development opportunities that support multiple growth paths. For attorneys interested in corporate counsel positions, we created HB In-House—a first-of-its-kind professional development program designed to simultaneously help attorneys gain an in-depth understanding of in-house roles and enhance our ability to cater more effectively to our clients’ needs.
We developed HB In-House in collaboration with our clients, who serve as instructors and coaches. Launched in the spring of 2024, the immersive training program continues to expand and be refined to help attorneys explore corporate legal careers. The program has already placed lawyers at companies such as Energizer, Leidos, and UL Solutions.
Education
Through focused learning modules, participants gain valuable insight into the roles and responsibilities of in-house attorneys, the structure of corporate legal teams, and the distinctions between private practice and in-house legal work. This comprehensive understanding enables them to thoughtfully evaluate whether a career as in-house counsel aligns with their long-term professional goals.
Training
The training series provides an interactive learning experience focused on six key areas: understanding the business, financial acumen, risk management, legal operations, relationship building, and leading by influence. Participants apply these skills in real-world scenarios and connect directly with experienced in-house counsel, gaining valuable insight into corporate legal teams while expanding their professional networks.
Coaching
HB In-House participants have access to executive coaching, small group coaching cohorts, and one-on-one mentorship with experienced in-house counsel. Select participants may also receive secondment opportunities, offering real-world exposure to corporate legal environments and deepening their practical experience.
