When banks, municipal entities, community developers and other investors nationwide need counsel on complicated tax credit transactions, they count on Steve to keep deals moving forward.

Steve helps clients deploy New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC), Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) programs, historic rehabilitation tax credits and renewable energy incentives, as well as other state and federal development incentives. These programs stimulate investment and economic growth in communities by providing capital to underserved projects and assisting with the rehabilitation of historic buildings. Steve handles everything from initial structuring through post-closing issues and ongoing compliance requirements.

His lending experience also encompasses real estate, construction, cash flow and asset-based loan transactions. He represents lenders and borrowers nationally in traditional and syndicated matters.

Clients appreciate Steve’s immediate engagement and feedback on their pressing issues. He prides himself on his ability to work with diverse client project groups and personalities, keeping everyone focused on what’s really important to get deals done in a timely manner.

  • Counseled Florida Community Loan Fund on providing NMTC financing to Camillus House, which provides humanitarian services to poor and homeless population in Miami and Dade County.
  • Represented NMTC investor and real estate lender in rehabilitation of historic St. Louis building into commercial and residential space, with more than $40 million in project costs.
  • Advised Community Development Entity on construction and development of Boys & Girls Clubs facility in San Francisco.
Outside the Office

Steve, a Cub Scout leader in suburban Clayton, Missouri, and his family enjoy the outdoors.

He, his wife and their three young children often pack into the family’s orange VW bus on weekends to go camping, explore music festivals, and visit other woodsy venues and state parks.
