Miguel Ruiz-Carpio

Patent Engineer
Overview

With a background in electrical engineering, Miguel assists clients with patent prosecution.

Miguel has always loved technology, inventions, and new ways to make things work. As an undergraduate, he majored in electrical engineering out of a passion for the impact electricity could have on the world. He was fascinated by the nonstop progress in his field.

A class on patent law for engineering students sparked Miguel’s interest, and he realized a career in the legal industry would mean working with new technologies and inventions on a daily basis. He couldn’t imagine anything more rewarding, and he joined the firm as a patent engineer. Miguel assists with patent prosecution for clients in the technology, manufacturing, and transportation industries; drafting applications; responding to office actions and proposing amendments; and guiding clients throughout the patent process. He works with a wide variety of technologies but is particularly interested in AI and power generation.

Prior to his work in law, Miguel was an engineer with a medical imaging company, where he gained hands-on experience integrating new and existing technologies. His background helps him guide clients through the complexity of this integration, as well as through patentability analysis.
