Lesley-Ann draws on her own experience as an inventor to help clients with patent prosecution matters.

Growing up in a family of engineers, Lesley-Ann was always drawn to building and inventing. As a college student, she pursued a degree in electrical engineering, with a focus on ASICs design, while working on her own mechanical design project. The project required her to work through the patent prosecution process—a familiar step from the stories she’d heard from her dad’s engineering career. Lesley-Ann quickly discovered that she enjoyed working on her patent even more than design and building work, and she decided to focus her own career on patent prosecution.

As a patent engineer at Husch Blackwell, Lesley-Ann analyzes the patentability of clients’ technologies and methods, drafts patent applications and summaries, responds to USPTO actions and proposes amendments in the event of a rejection, and provides general guidance on the patent process. She is particularly experienced with electrical engineering technologies, as well as software.

Lesley-Ann’s own background means that she knows firsthand how much patents mean to their inventors, as well as to the companies that rely on them. No patent is ever just a number for her, and she enthusiastically dives into the mechanics of each technology, developing a thorough understanding of the arguments she’ll lay out in a patent application. Always fascinated by how things work, Lesley-Ann thrives on researching client inventions.

Experience

  • Served on team for lunar dust mitigation project funded by NASA grant; responsible for validating integration of embedded systems software, electrical, and mechanical subsystems.
Outside the Office

Lesley-Ann loves all forms of biking—road biking, mountain biking, and taking her motorcycle out for a ride. She likes to spend as much time as possible outdoors and has been getting acquainted with Georgia’s trails after a recent move to the state.

When she’s inside, Lesley-Ann notes that she’s very much a clean freak and finds it genuinely relaxing to keep her house clean.
