Alyssa Marie Sanchez

Patent Engineer
Overview

With a passion for innovation, Alyssa assists clients with patent prosecution matters.

Expecting to pursue a career in healthcare, Alyssa studied biomedical engineering but soon realized her true interest lay not in medicine but in technology and innovation. She loves the idea of building for the future and sees technology as a truly people-driven field, with an emphasis on improving quality of life. Alyssa also adores the way new inventions foster others: she likes to observe that every time technology reaches a ceiling, the ceiling turns out instead to be a foundation that new innovations are built on.

Thanks to an equal interest in legal theory, Alyssa pursued a career as a patent engineer, assisting clients in the technology, manufacturing, and transportation industries with patent prosecution. Her role includes drafting patent applications, responding to USPTO actions, performing freedom to operate and landscape searches, and providing support for guiding clients’ patent strategy.

Alyssa has experience across multiple industries, with many patent applications relating to electrical, mechanical, and biomedical innovations. She has particular experience in control systems and software that includes implementing the Internet of Things (IoT) and radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. She also supports clients in the software as a service (SaaS) sector by conducting Open-Source Software (OSS) reviews to verify license compliance. In addition, from her working and educational background as an engineer, Alyssa is knowledgeable of the medical device and pharmaceutical industries and is broadly knowledgeable in material science.

Prior to joining Husch Blackwell, Alyssa served as a validation engineer and consultant for a pharmaceutical company where she was tasked with automating manufacturing processes for pharmaceutical production. Her time in consulting encouraged the enthusiasm Alyssa continues to display for each individual client project, and her experience developing and advancing production processes and supporting R&D teams gave her a solid understanding of the challenges clients face. Alyssa knows firsthand the importance of protecting clients’ innovations, and with a reputation as the team motivator, she’s always determined to get new technology to where it needs to be.
