Colleges and universities across the United States are facing difficult financial challenges, including rising costs, severe political blowback from tuition hikes, and — in some cases — worsening debt‐to‐endowment metrics. Increasingly, parents and students are also questioning the costs and benefits of higher education, exploring alternative career paths and options. These and other factors are forcing many colleges and universities to reduce workforces, reduce academic offerings, and/or consolidate campuses or institutions.
