As national and state cannabis laws continue to evolve navigating the tangle of regulations is challenging for companies operating in the industry. Issues such as licensing, insurance, banking, corporate structure and tax offer unique challenges in the cannabis industry.
Companies who are not involved with the cannabis industry still need to consider how recent developments in state laws will impact their operations and employees. As the number of states allowing the use of medical and recreational marijuana increases, employee drug testing and other policies need to be reviewed and in some cases updated. Additionally, recent federal court decisions upholding disability claims need to be considered when evaluating employee claims.
