The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced the total awards allocated to each state for the first year of the five-year Rural Health Transformation Program. As states transition from planning to implementation, they are making critical decisions on how to allocate resources to maximize impact in rural communities. States are currently finalizing budgets and preparing for operations. The first round of funding is expected to be released in March. States will be under pressure to start spending so they can demonstrate successes before they apply for Year Two funds. Organizations interested in receiving funding support need to identify initiatives that align with the goals of the Rural Health Transformation Program. By doing so, they can position themselves as valuable partners for their state’s efforts.
