Property Tax Assessment Season is Upon Wisconsin Taxpayers – City of Milwaukee Appeal Deadline is May 15th

Spring is in the air, and so is property tax assessment and appeal season. Each municipality has different procedures and deadlines on advising its taxpayers of the 2023 tax assessments. These deadlines are critical and, if ignored, will result in taxpayers forfeiting their right to challenge their 2023 assessment.

The City of Milwaukee recently notified taxpayers of their 2023 property tax assessments. While a rising overall assessment does not guarantee a higher property tax bill, it certainly signals that an increase in property taxes is likely. Milwaukee taxpayers who wish to challenge their assessment must file an appeal by no later than the “third Monday in May” (May 15, 2023).

Husch Blackwell’s State & Local Taxation (SaLT) team has decades of experience successfully representing taxpayers of all types with respect to valuation and exemption challenges. If you have questions about your 2023 assessment or wish to timely appeal it, please contact Smitha Chintamaneni, Anthony Anzelmo, or any other Husch Blackwell SaLT team member.
