Husch Blackwell is pleased to announce that this month marks the five-year anniversary of the opening of its office in the Cortex Innovation Community, the 200-acre innovation district located in St. Louis, Missouri and founded in 2002.

During the past five years, Husch Blackwell has played a key role in assisting many of the emerging-growth companies that have called Cortex home. The firm has staffed the Cortex office with a variety of lawyers on both a permanent and rotating basis and has provided legal advice ranging from intellectual property, employment law and immigration to corporate law, financing and mergers and acquisitions.

“Cortex is a vibrant home to startups, entrepreneurs and incubators,” said Husch Blackwell associate Ashley Edwards, who is also a member of the firm’s Cortex Leadership Team. “It is an exciting place to be if you like helping entrepreneurs reach their dreams.”

Husch Blackwell Cortex highlights from the past five years include:

  • Consulting with an innovator in the area of Alzheimer’s and cardiovascular disease diagnosis on intellectual property (IP) matters and transactional work in connection with a new round of financing
  • Assisting a biopharmaceutical client involved in a recent merger with healthcare regulatory matters, the integration of key datasets and protected information, an HR audit and general corporate matters
  • Advising a startup provider of online medical services with corporate, healthcare regulatory and IP
  • Consulting with an Internet of Things company with software licensing and IP work
  • Assisting an online tech company in the healthcare sector with securing an investment and labor and employment matters

“Our associate involvement has been a key component here,” said Dean Boeschen, Husch Blackwell’s Chief Growth Officer. “The ability for them to experience the complete client spectrum—from development to business solution—has been a huge benefit.”

The firm will celebrate its five-year anniversary at Cortex with an invite-only client event on August 21 during which time it will debut a beta-test version of its latest product offering, the Startup Diagnostic Tool. The new product assists attorneys in assessing early-stage companies and startups in order to address more precisely their legal needs.
