Benchmark Litigation, a leading legal directory devoted solely to litigation, has selected three Husch Blackwell partners among its 2019 Benchmark 40 & Under Hot List. The honorees include Kate David, Marci Kawski and Derek Teeter.
Based in Husch Blackwell’s Houston office where she serves as office managing partner, David is a highly regarded litigator with experience in high-stakes, complex public law matters, including condemnation, election law, public contracting and constitutional tort disputes. She is a fellow of the Houston Bar Foundation and a member of the Houston Bar Association, the Houston Young Lawyers Association, and the State Bar of Texas. She also holds the Commission of the Yellow Rose of Texas, which recognizes Texas women who have demonstrated exceptional volunteer and community service.
Kawski is a newcomer to the Benchmark 40 & Under Hot List. Based in Madison, Wisconsin, Kawski represents banks, credit unions, and other lenders when faced with regulatory issues and consumer finance litigation. Benchmark noted her recent work in federal and state courts, including a victory at the Wisconsin Supreme Court involving a case that probed the scope of the Wisconsin Consumer Act and that will likely have far-reaching implications for the state’s creditor community.
Based in Kansas City, Teeter is a litigator focused on complex disputes involving federal and state regulatory statutes, governmental immunities, and constitutional rights. He handles litigation at all stages and has compiled a notable record of achievement as an appellate lawyer. A majority of his clients are private and public colleges and universities that face lawsuits from students, faculty, and contractors, as well as regulatory enforcement actions from the U.S. Department of Education and equivalent state agencies. He has maintains an active practice handling consumer class action and the False Claims Act litigation. Benchmark has also previously recognized Teeter on its Future Star list.
