Overview

Tamia is a senior paralegal who handles conflicts checks for all pro bono matters in the Kansas City office, as well as all Jackson County Family Court appointments.

Her experience in criminal law and Family Court includes 12 years at the Missouri State Public Defender’s Office as a paralegal investigator and four years with the Jackson County Family Court as a paralegal. Tamia has been the paralegal for each of the current seated commissioners in Family Court.

As the pro bono and Family Court paralegal, Tamia’s duties include:

  • Work with the Missouri Children’s Division to ensure clients’ court-ordered services are authorized.
  • Work with professionals, including therapists and school officials, to ensure clients’ needs are met and resources are utilized.
  • Interview and subpoena witnesses for court hearings and adjudications.
  • Meet with clients to ensure their concerns are addressed.
  • Visit clients in their foster homes or out-of-home placements when firm is appointed as guardian ad litem for children.
  • Review and analyze motions, briefs, reports and other legal documents.
  • Assist with case strategies.
  • Assist with conflict checks for all pro bono matters in the Kansas City office.
