Overview

Megan helps universities navigate change. She counsels higher education institutions on complex issues involving students, faculty, and campus stakeholders, helping institutions make sound decisions that support their missions and long-term success.

Megan first joined the firm in 2024 as the Higher Education Law Fellow at the University of Kansas. Embedded within the university for two years, she developed a practical, client-centered approach to counseling informed by close engagement to institutional operations. The fellowship provided Megan with broad exposure to the range of issues confronting colleges and universities, from contracts and federal grants to regulatory compliance and athletics, to intellectual property, financial aid and labor and employment matters, and to cultural heritage compliance and art law.

Megan has worked extensively on matters involving the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), advising on regulatory requirements, tribal consultation, and repatriation efforts. Megan possesses a firsthand understanding of how issues develop within higher education institutions, including the stakeholders involved and the dynamics that shape decision-making. This perspective allows Megan to quickly orient to client needs and provide efficient, informed counsel.

Megan’s interest in the law grew out of her undergraduate studies in art history, where her research on World War II-era art restitution and repatriation frequently intersected with legal and regulatory issues. While in law school, she served as the Art Law Extern to the Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas, where she worked on copyright and contract matters related to works in the collection and exhibitions at the museum. Her experience as an extern and a law fellow broadened her understanding of the range of legal issues that arise in higher education and the adaptability required of attorneys in the field.

Known for her thoughtful and collaborative approach, Megan listens carefully to clients’ concerns and develops well-reasoned solutions to the challenges facing higher education institutions. Clients and colleagues describe her as curious and unafraid to engage with difficult or novel issues, with a willingness to dig into context, consider problems from multiple perspectives, and contribute as a responsive and reliable team member.

Outside the Office

Megan is happiest when exploring the outdoors—whether skiing in the Rockies, traveling abroad, or wandering a new city on foot. Having spent much of her life making the drive west from Kansas to Colorado, she developed a lasting love for the mountains.

An avid traveler, Megan is especially drawn to places where culture, history, and architecture intersect. She enjoys visiting art museums around the world, with London’s Tate Modern and Kansas City’s Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art among her favorites. Wherever she travels, Megan can often be found admiring the local architecture and discovering a place through its buildings, public spaces, and design.
