As a corporate attorney, Lucas works closely with energy sector clients to identify creative, customized solutions.

Lucas has experience counseling clients across a broad range of industries on sophisticated transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, restructuring transactions, joint ventures and partnerships, and financing transactions. With a focus on the renewable energy industry, he assists clients in the acquisition, development, and financing of wind, solar, and other renewable energy projects.

As a Delaware licensed attorney, Lucas has extensive experience counseling clients on areas of entity selection and corporate governance. He works closely with clients and the firm’s coast-to-coast legal team to find creative, cost-effective, and customized solutions that not only solve a client’s immediate legal issue but envision future growth and goals.

  • Represented Casey's General Stores, Inc. as lead associate in a series of strategic asset acquisitions.
  • Assisted renewable energy investment fund in its $43 million acquisition of a portfolio of operational renewable energy assets capable of producing 18.2 MW.
  • Represented a national minerals production company as lead associate in its approximately $45 million equity investment in a fire retardant manufacturing company.
  • Represented national sewer sanitation and maintenance company as lead associate in its approximately $28 million strategic acquisition of a competitor.
  • Represented special purpose acquisition company Northern Genesis Acquisition Corp. in its de-SPAC merger into a subsidiary of The Lion Electric Company, a manufacturer of all-electric medium and heavy-duty urban vehicles.
  • Represented special purpose acquisition company Northern Genesis Acquisition Corp. II in its de-SPAC PIPE financing and business combination with Embark Trucks Inc., an autonomous trucking software company.
  • Represented a multinational clothing brand in the divestiture of its brick and mortar retail business line.
  • Represented regional bank client as lead associate in its strategic acquisition of an established broker dealer specializing in public finance underwriting.
  • Counseled the ownership group of a professional sports franchise on a restructuring of its subsidiaries and the sale of a minority interest.
  • Advised the special independent board committee of various energy clients on their acquisition or sale of energy-related projects, including petroleum production plants and renewable energy facilities.
  • Led the local corporate counsel work for a global green energy company in connection with the development of a utility-scale hydrogen plant.
  • Advised multiple national clients on large-scale joint venture and joint development agreements, including in the textiles and natural resource extraction industries.
Outside the Office

Lucas and his family enjoy traveling the world in their free time. At home, they cheer on the Iowa Hawkeyes and support the Arsenal Football Club.

Community Leadership

Lucas has donated his time, talents and legal skills to numerous nonprofits.

Lucas has volunteered with several nonprofits – such as soup kitchens, community gardens and housing repair organizations that keep families in their homes. Lucas also works with nonprofits in an advisory role on a pro bono basis – advising them on volunteer waivers, nonprofit status, board functions and other critical elements that help these organizations continue to help others.
