Jon’s journey into law began during an internship at Kimberly-Clark while pursuing an undergraduate degree in economics. There, he encountered the financial and legal obligations of a large corporation, sparking his interest in the intersection of law and economics. This led him to pursue a career in business law.
Corporate law, particularly mergers and acquisitions, appeals to Jon because it combines business, law, and strategy. He’s fascinated by the dynamic nature of deal-making, requiring a deep understanding of a client’s business and the evolving legal landscape.
During law school, Jon externed with Whirlpool Corporation, gaining invaluable exposure to a large corporation’s legal perspective. He worked directly with legal teams across multiple continents and witnessed a significant M&A deal, which broadened his understanding of global business objectives and the intricacies of such transactions.
At Whirlpool, Jon learned to see legal issues from a business perspective. He observed how law firms interact with legal departments and business units to create strategies that align with business goals. This experience gave him an inside perspective on the expectations and culture of in-house counsel.
Jon also worked as a summer associate at Husch Blackwell, where he participated in various projects, including the Communities for Change program. He drafted the founding documents of an LLC, tailoring them to meet the specific needs of a local entrepreneur.
