Dave supports developers, investors, and lenders through tax credit and incentive-based financing structures that keep community development and affordable housing projects moving forward.
Before law school, Dave spent nearly a decade running his own businesses, including an auto sales company and a phone repair service that grew to include both a storefront and a mobile operation. Handling everything from sales and marketing to bookkeeping and client service gave him a ground-level view of how legal issues affect a business day to day, which drew him toward a legal career built on sound, business-minded advice.
During law school, Dave served as a Rule 13 student attorney in the Entrepreneurship and Community Development Clinic, where he helped a nonprofit business association incorporate, drafted its bylaws and conflict of interest policy, and prepared its filing for federal tax-exempt recognition. That work showed him he could make a difference in the community through legal work, and it pointed him toward tax credit finance and development, where he is drawn to the complexity of the deals and to projects with a community development component.
As a summer associate at Husch Blackwell, Dave worked on a range of matters, spending significant time with the Tax Credit Finance and Development team. That experience confirmed that his background and interests were well suited to the practice and that it would let him help clients make a real impact in the communities where they work.
Known for bringing a practical, business-minded perspective to complex legal problems, Dave is thorough in his research and drafting and stays focused on the practical, real-world stakes of a transaction alongside the legal analysis.
