Basim guides U.S. employers in hiring and retaining global talent by facilitating appropriate work authorization, advising on compliance issues, and developing comprehensive immigration program frameworks. He practices from Herndon, Virginia as a member of our virtual office, The Link.
He primarily serves higher education clients, advising universities on both short- and long-term immigration strategies for their international scholars, faculty, and staff. His perspective is shaped by working in his undergraduate university’s international center, where he supported immigration compliance for international students and employees.
He brings a decade of experience practicing immigration law, including prior roles at a global immigration law firm and a nationally recognized immigration boutique. In those roles, he primarily advised universities, nonprofits, public school systems, and clients across hospitality, aviation, engineering, financial, and tech sectors on complex, high-volume immigration matters. Basim has extensive experience with both nonimmigrant and immigrant visas, as well as with developing and implementing immigration sponsorship policies, conducting compliance audits, and providing overall immigration program management support. He values Husch Blackwell’s multidisciplinary platform and strong higher education immigration practice, which align closely with his background and enable collaboration on tangential issues that often arise in immigration matters.
While in law school, Basim completed internships with the U.S. Department of Justice Executive Office for Immigration Review at the Detroit Immigration Court, as well as with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Office of the Chief Counsel. Combined, his higher education, government, and private practice experience give him a holistic perspective of the immigration system, which informs how he evaluates strategy, timing, and risk. Clients value his calm, level-headed, approachable style, and his ability to translate complex immigration issues into digestible guidance for employers, foreign nationals, and their families.
