With the Compass Pathways psilocybin NDA on track for Q4 2026, the field has a finite window—roughly 12 to 18 months—to build the billing and coverage infrastructure that Spravato®’s developers did not have when esketamine was approved in 2019. The result of that failure is still visible: inconsistent commercial coverage, unresolved Medicare classification, and billing complexity that many practices navigate imperfectly today, despite the drug approaching blockbuster sales.

- The three Category III CPT codes created specifically for psychedelic-assisted therapy—0820T, 0821T, and 0822T—what they cover, what they do not, and how every claim filed under them today contributes to the dataset that supports future Category I conversion.
- FDA’s June 2026 draft guidance on pre-approval payor communications, including what developers, clinical investigators, and institutions are now permitted to share with insurers under the section 502(gg) safe harbor and the compliance obligations that come with it.
