Michael Blackwell will be speaking on the “Expanding Energy Storage: Financing, Valuing & Implementing Projects Today” panel at the Infocast Midcontinent Clean Energy Summit on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Storage is booming in MISO, with roughly 1,000 MW currently online and roughly 60 GW in the queue despite storage’s questionable bankability in recent years. Despite this progress, an ACP report states that the MISO region needs a 500% increase in BESS by 2035. Is this accurate, is this attainable, and what policy or market signal changes need to happen? Have MISO, FERC, the OB3’s tax credit runway, and other policy changes aligned with IRPs in states like Minnesota, Illinois, and Michigan making storage a bankable prospect? This panel will explore the evolving perspectives, revenue models, and use cases moving the needle, while weighing the risks and opportunities for co-located, standalone, and hybrid storage in MISO.
