Sean Quinn will present, with co-speaker Tim Reuschel, Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of TMC Health, “Affiliation Without Acquisition: Integration and Growth Strategies for Health Systems, Hospitals, and Physicians,” at the Arizona Society of Healthcare Attorneys, 2026 Arizona Health Law Conference, on Friday, October 2, 2026.
The program explores health systems’ pursuit of growth through targeted affiliations rather than full acquisition or divestiture—expanding access to care, particularly with specialty service lines in rural healthcare, building scale, and strengthening market position without the complexity and cost of traditional M&A deals. This session takes a practitioner’s look at the deal models hospitals actually use, including hospital-within-a-hospital structures, co-management and service line arrangements, and joint ventures with physicians, alongside a candid comparison of direct physician employment. This session will also examine the trends and impact of private equity influence, including how PE participation disrupts existing arrangements. Discussion will focus on selecting the right model for the business objective at hand, aligning governance and incentives, anticipating key legal and regulatory considerations, and lessons learned from real-world examples of what works—and what can derail a partnership—from initial strategy through implementation.
