How Should School Districts Respond to Recent Guidance on Title IX and Sexual Violence?

March 17, 2016
2:30 PM - 3:45 PM

Webinar

In recent years, addressing sexual violence on campus has been a major focus of the federal government. While much of the attention has been directed at colleges and universities, the U.S. Department of Education has released guidance documents that apply to public school districts as well. The department’s Office for Civil Rights increasingly is investigating the adequacy under Title IX of school district responses to alleged sexual assaults. And the media have turned their attention to the issue with a number of high-profile reports.

Please join the Council of the Great City Schools and Husch Blackwell for a webinar on the Title IX obligations of public school districts regarding allegations of sexual violence. Lawyers in Husch Blackwell’s Education practice group will explain the operative legal framework, including recent court decisions, federal guidance documents and related enforcement actions.

Topics

  • Overview of the legal framework for school district responsibilities under Title IX
  • Roles and responsibilities of Title IX coordinators
  • Conducting investigations
  • Interim measures to protect alleged victims
