Emerging Legal Issues in Urban Education: Accommodating Transgender Students and Staff: Uncertain Requirements, Best Practices and Options to Consider

January 14, 2016
2:30 PM - 3:45 PM

Webinar

Transgender accommodation is a hot topic in education law today, and a number of school districts face high-profile conflicts involving this issue. The law in this area is unsettled. Several federal agencies have adopted the view that federal civil rights laws require the accommodation of LGBT persons, while some courts have interpreted the law differently. Recent developments undoubtedly will be influential in shaping the requirements for public school districts.

Please join the Council of the Great City Schools and Husch Blackwell for a webinar on Title IX obligations for transgender accommodation. Partners in Husch Blackwell’s Education group will explain the operative legal framework, including recent court decisions and federal guidance documents and enforcement actions.

Topics

  • Overview of the legal framework for transgender accommodations by educational institutions
  • Best practices for accommodating transgender staff and students
  • Practical options to consider
