Husch Blackwell partner Tom Shorter has been selected as a 2026 Fellow of the American Health Law Association (AHLA), recognizing his exceptional contributions to health law. He joins Husch Blackwell partner Harvey Tettlebaum, who was selected as a Fellow in 2007.
Shorter is a recognized leader by Chambers USA and Legal 500 in representing and supporting healthcare organizations in sophisticated restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, affiliations and joint ventures, among other corporate and employment matters.
Shorter joined AHLA in 1996 and has been a consistent presence at AHLA's Annual Meeting, Health Care Transactions conference, and Physicians & Hospitals Law Institute. He served six years on the AHLA Board of Directors and had the distinction of serving as AHLA President during the 2022–2023 fiscal year, where he championed the Association's collegial culture as a cornerstone of its strategic direction. Prior to his Board service, Shorter chaired the Labor & Employment Practice Group. He is a member of the Greenburg Lifetime Giving Club and has mentored numerous health law associates through AHLA's formal and informal mentoring programs.
“AHLA has given me so much over the course of my career: meaningful connections, professional growth, and the opportunity to give back to a field I care deeply about,” Shorter said. “Thank you to the Association and to the many colleagues who have been part of this work.”
The AHLA Fellows program acknowledges members who have made exceptional contributions to the legal profession, the health law field, and AHLA over an extended period. Fellows are chosen based on their career achievements, leadership, and ongoing commitment to the health law community.
