“Mark is a leading authority on competition and antitrust matters pertaining to agriculture,” said Steve Carman, the leader of Husch Blackwell’s Food & Agribusiness industry group.

Husch Blackwell is pleased to announce that Mark Tobey has joined the firm as senior counsel in its Austin office. A 10-year veteran of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division, Tobey will practice in the firm’s Food & Agribusiness industry group and focus on a variety of antitrust and competition matters for clients, including merger notification filings pursuant to the Hart–Scott–Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act.

Tobey joined the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division in 2009 and served as the Competition Policy and Advocacy Section’s Special Counsel for State Relations and Agriculture. In that role he routinely served as the Antitrust Division’s liaison to state attorney general (AG) offices’ competition enforcers and to the U.S. Department of Agriculture and agricultural advocacy groups and reported to agency leadership on state cooperation policy and enforcement. He also worked closely with state AGs and the Federal Trade Commission on a variety of matters, including merger review and conduct.

“Mark is a leading authority on competition and antitrust matters pertaining to agriculture,” said Steve Carman, the leader of Husch Blackwell’s Food & Agribusiness industry group. “He has an extraordinarily broad network of relationships, including trade groups, business executives, state and federal legislators, enforcers, regulators, and administrative policymakers. Our clients will benefit greatly from the scope and depth of his knowledge.”

Tobey’s arrival at the firm follows closely on that of Wendy Arends, a noted antitrust lawyer in Husch Blackwell’s Madison office, as the firm continues to provide clients with enhanced antitrust law capabilities.
