Husch Blackwell's Healthcare Team Adds Intellectual Property Partner Denise Mayfield in Austin, Texas

Partner Denise Mayfield has joined Austin, Texas, office of Husch Blackwell as the newest addition to the firm’s Healthcare, Life Sciences & Pharmaceuticals team. Mayfield will advise U.S. and foreign based pharmaceutical companies, research organizations, pharmaceutical/biotechnology companies and other organizations in the healthcare arena in the development and protection of intellectual property assets, including biotechnology licensing, product clearance, regulatory compliance and technology transfer.

Mayfield previously practiced in the Washington, D.C., office of an AmLaw 200 firm and has advised healthcare and medical industry clients in the management of a number of intellectual property issues. Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, and admitted to the Texas and D.C. bars, Mayfield advises clients regarding patents, inventions, claim scope and patent infringement. She also represents companies in negotiating license and cooperative research agreements. In addition, she has prepared and prosecuted several hundred patents and patent applications.

Mayfield received her J.D. from St. Mary’s School of Law in San Antonio, Texas (1988). Prior to law school, she worked as a researcher at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio, in the Department of Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases, and in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. During her scientific career, Mayfield was published more than a dozen times in highly respected, refereed scientific journals, including Science and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), and others. She received her M.S. in genetics and physiology from the University of Texas at San Antonio (1983), and her B.A. in biology from Trinity University in San Antonio (1979).
