Husch Blackwell’s Energy Team Expands in Denver; Three Partners Added, Strengthening Corporate Expertise

News Releases

James J. Muchmore and Steven N. Levine have joined Husch Blackwell’s Denver office as Partners in the firm’s Energy & Natural Resources team. They follow the addition of Partner Jeffrey T. Haughey, who recently transferred to Denver from the firm’s Kansas City, Mo., office. The three are a welcome addition to the firm’s distinguished group of energy-focused corporate attorneys, including Denver Partner Robert P. Attai, whose practice is global in nature and focuses on domestic and international corporate partnership matters. Levine and Muchmore practiced together for the past eight years at two Denver law firms.

Muchmore practiced corporate and natural resources law at his former firm. He counseled oil and gas, technology and healthcare clients regarding federal securities laws, public and private offerings, mergers, acquisitions, securities, business transactions and corporate governance. He has also represented fund sponsors and private investors in connection with seed-capital start-up investments and investment management issues. Muchmore previously worked at three AmLaw 100 firms in Denver, New York City and Washington, D.C.

Muchmore received his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law (2000) and his B.A. from Lafayette College in Easton, Pa. (1996).

Levine’s experience includes counseling various companies regarding federal and state securities laws, public and private securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, reorganizations, joint ventures, structuring business formations and corporate governance matters. One of Levine’s transactions at a previous firm involved overseeing a $200 million reverse merger of a natural resources company into a public shell. Levine began his legal practice in the Denver office of an AmLaw 100 firm, where he worked on mergers, acquisitions, and corporate and securities matters.

Levine received his J.D. from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law (2006) and his B.A. from the University of Oregon (2000).

Haughey has practiced with Husch Blackwell and predecessor firms since the inception of his legal career in 1983. He is a member of the Energy team and a contributor to the firm’s Technology, Manufacturing & Transportation team, assisting clients with corporate matters. Haughey has represented issuers in nearly $14 billion of public offerings and private placements of equity and debt securities, and has advised many of these same clients in connection with mergers and acquisitions of other companies with a portion of the proceeds of the offerings. He is knowledgeable in corporate governance matters and has significant experience with crisis management issues resulting from Chapter 11 reorganizations, restatements of financial statements from accounting irregularities and financial distress due to changed market conditions.

Haughey received his J.D., with distinction, from the University of Iowa College of Law (1983) and his B.S., with high honors, in Accounting, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1980).
