Husch Blackwell is proud to announce its sponsorship of Plexpod Westport Commons, a new campus-like co-working community in Kansas City, Missouri, featuring co-working space, private office space, work stations, common areas, event spaces, and other unique amenities geared toward entrepreneurs, start-up ventures, growth companies of all sizes, non-profits, and on-site educational and distance learning programs.

As part of the firm’s partnership with Plexpod, Husch Blackwell will sponsor a dedicated conference room on the premises and will host a variety of programs for start-ups and entrepreneurs that include educational and networking opportunities for Plexpod tenants, firm clients, and other members of Kansas City’s entrepreneurial community. The firm’s inaugural event at Plexpod will be October 16, 2017, when it welcomes the recent winners of LaunchKC’s grant competition.

In its entirety, Plexpod Westport Commons and the related Westport Common real estate development will contain 360,000 square feet of capacity, spanning 15 acres, in the heart of Kansas City’s vibrant midtown area. The now completed redevelopment of Westport Junior High School, built in 1923, represents the first phase.  Phase two will involve redevelopment the former Westport High School, built in 1908, and is currently in pre-development activities. Both sites are historically significant examples of Progressive Era architecture and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

“The space is impressive, and the renovation and redevelopment have really created something special,” said Husch Blackwell’s Kansas City Office Managing Partner Jeff Simon. “This is the kind of anchor development that can take the entrepreneurial community in Kansas City to the next level and attract talent and ideas on a national basis. Our firm is proud to be a part of it.”

Sustainable Development Partners Kansas City, the developer of Plexpod Westport Commons, is holding an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday, October 11 at 4 p.m. to celebrate the completion of the project.
