News Releases

Thomson Reuters division West recently released the third annual edition of Patent Claim Interpretation –Global Edition. Husch Blackwell Partner Edward D. Manzo conceived the project, selected the chapter contributors, wrote the book's introduction as well as the chapter on U.S. patent claims, and edited the entire work. The 960-page book educates readers on the global treatment of patent claim interpretation and covers information specific to 29 countries and Hong Kong.

On May 5, West released the 2011 edition of Patent Claim Construction in the Federal Circuit, a book Manzo developed and edits annually. The book concerns a central and frequently dispositive issue in patent litigation - how courts determine the scope of a patent - and is a collaborative effort with the Litigation Committee of the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago (IPLAC). Manzo became President of IPLAC last May and has served in various other leadership roles within the association over the last 10 years.

An attorney in the firm's Chicago office, Manzo has practiced intellectual property law for decades and was recognized as a Top 100 Illinois Super Lawyer® in 2010 and 2011. He counsels and litigates on behalf of diverse clients. Active in the legal community, he also worked on the court committees that drafted the local patent rules for the Northern District of Illinois (effective Oct. 1, 2009) and the Seventh Circuit pattern jury instructions for patent cases (adopted in 2008).
