Higher Education and K-12 Education Experience
- Created and provided customized training for more than 30 colleges and universities to prepare administration, faculty, employees and students to face shifting legal landscapes on topics including new policies and procedures as well as more common issues confronting educational institutions.
- Defended a school district in a class action suit brought by parents seeking systemic changes in the delivery of special education services throughout the district and received a favorable outcome for client;
- Obtained a defense verdict in the trial of a sexual harassment case brought in state court by a secretary against a principal;
- Drafted employment agreements for college and university presidents, faculty, and independent contractors;
- Represented a private school in connection with a $30 million capital improvements program, including bond financing, real estate matters, and negotiating and drafting agreements with architects and contractors;
- Defended two school districts against lawsuits alleging that they had failed to properly roll back property tax levies and received favorable outcomes on behalf of clients;
- Represented school district in administrative proceedings against regulations implemented by the State Department of Education with a favorable outcome for the client.
- Represented a school district against civil rights and open records claims brought by a former student arising out of bullying within a school district athletic program.
- Handled numerous school district appeals in federal appellate courts and the Supreme Court of the United States.
