Situation
A publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT) sought to redevelop a large retail space in a Wisconsin mall. Redevelopment would require a major alteration to the mall’s existing conditional use approval, which was complex and dated to the mall’s construction in 1970. Husch Blackwell was engaged to coordinate the land use approval process with the city.
Result
Our team coordinated several meetings between the REIT and city staff to identify and address issues. Under our guidance, the project was unanimously approved by the city’s Urban Design Commission and Plan Commission. We also obtained approval of a comprehensive signage package to allow unique tenant signs.
