Situation
A children’s hospital developed groundbreaking technology that dramatically reduced the diagnosis time for genetic diseases. Using a blood sample, the new process allows doctors to sequence a patient’s entire genome, analyze it and come up with a set of possible diagnoses in about 50 hours. Previously, the process took four to six weeks.
Result
We addressed a multitude of intellectual property issues, including licensing, patent and other related matters for the new technology. This rapid whole genome sequencing approach was named one of Time magazine’s “Top 10 Medical Breakthroughs of 2012.”
