Situation

When a sheet of glass fell from the seventh floor and damaged a car, the owners of a luxury Houston condominium building knew there was a problem. After hiring consultants to investigate the incident, they found other defects, including poorly installed glass railing on individual balconies, cracking and delaminating exterior cladding, and problems with heating and air, fire sprinklers, plumbing, electrical systems and waterproofing. The owners engaged Husch Blackwell to represent them in a lawsuit against the general contractor and its subcontractors, citing defective construction and massive repair costs.

Result

Our attorneys successfully represented the owners in litigation, mediation and settlement of construction defect claims against the defendants in excess of $15 million, and through settlement of a separate declaratory judgment action filed by the project insurer seeking to avoid coverage for the damages.
