Situation

We represented a global chemical company involving a pipeline rupture near Houston that released 300,000 gallons of methanol into the subsurface. Groundwater contamination was extensive and remediation was estimated to be in the millions of dollars.

Result

Using photogrammetry, leak detection and other techniques, we convinced the jury that a contractor working on a 36-inch water line 25 years ago was responsible for the release. The client was found not liable for the leak or failure to detect it, and had no further responsibility for site remediation or monitoring.
