What is your history with Husch Blackwell?
I was hired by (what was then) Husch & Eppenberger to be a summer associate in the St. Louis office in 1996. I joined the firm after graduating from law school in 1997 and was a member of the corporate practice group. In 2003, I moved to an in-house position at telecommunications company Suddenlink Communications, which was subsequently sold to telecom Altice USA in 2015. After leaving Altice USA in 2017, I decided to take some time off. At the incessant urging of my good friend and Husch Blackwell attorney Joe Glynias, I found myself back at Husch Blackwell for a few months last summer, working on location for a client.
Describe your current role/practice outside of Husch Blackwell.
In August 2019, I joined BellRing Brands as general counsel. BellRing provides convenient nutrition under the Premier Protein, Dymatize and PowerBar brands. Our flagship product is Premier Protein ready-to-drink protein shakes. As general counsel, I am responsible for all legal and regulatory affairs and strategies for the company.
Describe any interesting and emerging trends you’re seeing in your industry.
While this is certainly not specific to the convenient nutrition industry, an emerging trend is the importance of corporate social responsibility and sustainability – often referred to as ESG (environmental, social and governance) principles. ESG practices of companies are an increasing focus of consumers, investors, employees and communities, and they are a focus for BellRing also.
What is one of the most interesting projects on which you’ve worked?
I joined BellRing in August, and we took the company public in October. An initial public offering is an interesting project by itself. Working on an initial public offering at the same time as I was learning about the company and beginning new work relationships made it that much more interesting! We have a great team and closed a successful offering in a choppy capital market.
What hobbies/activities do you enjoy outside the office?
Before COVID-19, I enjoyed spending time with my wife, Jennifer, and our children, watching sports and reading. While there are obviously no sports to watch now, I am enjoying plenty (plenty!) of time with Jennifer, Dylan (age 19 and home from college) and Demi (age 15), along with binging television and reading.

What? Maury Poscover retired from the firm? So soon? Maury was a friend and mentor to me – both professionally and personally – during my time at Husch Blackwell. I am happy to see him hang up his law cleats to enjoy more time with his family.
