In July 2014, the school districts comprising the Council of the Great City Schools (CGCS) committed to carrying out specific actions to prepare males of color for college and careers and to help them succeed.
Please join us for a webinar at which leaders of the CGCS will provide an overview of the specific ways the council is helping school districts implement “A Pledge by America’s Great City Schools” (the Pledge). Husch Blackwell attorneys will discuss how to implement the Pledge in a way that is fully consistent with Title VI and Title IX, as well as some of the legal limitations that should be considered when implementing initiatives – for example, the appropriate way to implement
single-sex classes or programs. They will also address Pledge actions that are consistent with areas of enforcement by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, such as reviews of discriminatory discipline practices.
