Husch Blackwell Sanders is proud to announce that President Bush’s appointment of Harvey M. Tettlebaum to the James Madison Fellowship Foundation has been confirmed by the United States Senate.
The James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation was established by Congress in 1986 for the purpose of improving teaching about the United States Constitution in secondary schools. The Foundation is an independent agency of the Executive Branch of the federal government. Funding for the Foundation’s programs comes from Congress and generous contributions from individuals, foundations, and corporations. The Foundation has a Board of Trustees and its daily operations are directed by a president and a small staff. The Foundation’s office is located in Washington, D.C.
Tettlebaum is the Managing Partner of the firm's Jefferson City office. He is a recognized authority in the areas of Health Care Law (including White Collar Criminal Defense), Regulatory and Administrative Law. Tettlebaum has briefed and/or argued over 100 appeals in various appellate courts including the United States Supreme Court, Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Missouri Supreme Court and Courts of Appeals.
Prior to going into private practice in I977, Tettlebaum was Assistant Dean at Washington University School of Law (1969-1970), and he served as Assistant Attorney General under John Danforth for eight years, operating as Chief Counsel of the Consumer Protection and Anti-Trust Divisions of that office. His duties also included representing state occupation and professional licensing boards and commissions, acting as liaison counsel with the Public Service Commission and the Division of Insurance, and administering Division offices in Jefferson City, Kansas City and St. Louis. Tettlebaum was Treasurer of the Missouri Republican Party from 1977-2004. He serves as outside general counsel to the Missouri Republican Party. Tettlebaum has been active in grassroots politics since 1968. He has served as Chair of the Moniteau County, Missouri Republican Central Committee; as a member of the Missouri Republican State Committee; since 1972 has been Chair of the Republican candidate for President committee in his county; and Chair of Missouri Lawyers for Bush-Quayle (1992), Missouri Lawyers for Dole-Kemp (1996), Co-Chair Missouri Lawyers for Bush-Cheney (2000) and Regional Chair of Lawyers for Bush-Cheney (2004). Tettlebaum has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Republican National Lawyers Association since 1992, and is its past president. He is an active member of the Republican Jewish Coalition. He is active in the Missouri Bar Association, having served as Chair of the Administrative Law Committee, Vice-Chair of the Health and Hospital Law Committee, and Chair of the Commercial Law Committee. Tettlebaum recently served as Vice-Chair of the Delivery of Legal Services Committee. He is vice-chair of the Missouri Statewide Legal Services Corporation. Tettlebaum is also a member of the American Bar Association and is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.
Tettlebaum earned an A.B. from Dartmouth College in 1964, a J.D. from Washington University School of Law in 1968, and an A.M. Degree in History from Washington University in 1968.
