Husch Blackwell successfully negotiated Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp.’s acquisition of 480 megawatts of wind generation assets, as part of an $888 million transaction. As reported by AmLaw Daily on March 10, 2012, Husch Blackwell negotiated the Canadian company’s purchase of wind farm assets in four states — Illinois, Iowa, Pennsylvania and Texas — from Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica. Led by Partner James G. Goettsch, the energy and infrastructure team included Partners John K. Brungardt, John C. Crossley, Eric J. Gervais, John D. Moore, Teresa Reinking, Jason A. Reschly, Christopher J. Rockers, Brogan T. Sullivan and Edward V. Wilson and Associates McGregor K. Johnson, Leo O. Salinger, Bert A. Seefeldt and Michelle A. Torline.

“The acquisition of 480 MW of additional wind generation doubles APUC’s independent power generation portfolio,” said Ian Robertson, Chief Executive Officer of APUC, in a press release from Algonquin. “This substantial investment in our independent power business is a continuation of the successful strategy to create shareholder value through accretive growth. This acquisition and the relationship established with Gamesa provide APCo with a significant foothold in the U.S. wind energy market.”
