Overview

At age 18, Wakaba came to the United States from Japan to pursue higher education. After law school she forged into healthcare, particularly the compliance issues facing specialty pharmacies.

Wakaba’s work requires mastery not just of the law but also the rapidly changing healthcare marketplace and its many regulations. She focuses on the unique issues faced by specialty pharmacies, such as licensing and other compliance challenges. Wakaba also advises physicians, medical practices and other healthcare professionals on Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, licensing, supervision requirements and scope of practice.

Wakaba regularly negotiates and manages healthcare transactions, including acquisitions and mergers of physician practices, hospitals and joint ventures. She advises clients on federal fraud and abuse issues related to the Stark Law, the False Claims Act and the anti-kickback statute.
