Wakaba has focused her legal career on healthcare law. She regularly negotiates and manages various healthcare transactions, including the acquisition and merger of physician practices, hospitals and joint ventures, and advises clients regarding federal fraud and abuse issues related to the Stark Law, the False Claims Act and the anti-kickback statute. She also has extensive experience counseling various clients on HIPAA and privacy issues. She routinely develops tailored privacy compliance programs for clients, assists in implementing related policies and procedures, and provides HIPAA training.
Wakaba advises physicians, physician practices and other healthcare professionals on federal and state issues, including Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, licensing, supervision requirements and scope of practice. She has particular experience working with specialty pharmacies to resolve licensing and other compliance challenges facing new business ventures.
In addition, she regularly advises clients on laboratory compliance issues related to billing and licensing. Wakaba is a board member for the Health Partnership Clinic and the Missouri Society of Health Care Attorneys, as well as a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and the Health Care Compliance Association
