A patent attorney, Ted advises sole inventors, startup entities, emerging businesses and global Fortune 500 companies on protecting key intellectual property assets and developing IP/patent portfolios with meaningful value.  He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Ted’s work includes:

  • Advocacy – Arguing before the U.S. Patent Office Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences, with numerous successful outcomes.
  • Agreement work – Drafting and negotiating intellectual property license agreements.
  • Strategic counsel – Advising individuals and companies on protecting key IP assets and developing meaningful patent portfolios.
  • Opinion work – Preparing patentability, freedom-to-operate and patent noninfringement opinions.
  • Trademarks – Providing trademark counsel to emerging businesses.
  • Patent counsel – Drafting  patent applications and preparing and prosecuting patents in the U.S. and worldwide. Ted has drafted hundreds of patent applications and is well-versed in myriad technologies, including:
    • Chemical arts (catalyst chemistry, organic compounds, polymer compositions and production — elastomers and polyolefins, wire and cable insulation, automotive plastics)
    • Sustainable technologies (solid-state hydrogen fuel, purified silicon, algae production, anaerobic digestion, biosolid remediation, desalination, solar thermal, water purification)
    • eCommerce systems and smartphone applications
    • Food packaging and packaging adhesives 
    • Organic light emitting diodes and semiconductor structures
    • Nano-/micro-layer film technology
    • Food science (food products — confectionery, chewing gum and snack foods; food processing) 
    • Medical products (medical devices, medical fluid delivery systems, pharmaceutical formulations)
    • Mechanical arts—consumer goods

Ted regularly lectures MBA students at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee on intellectual property topics. Prior to joining the firm, he practiced law in Chicago with Bell, Boyd &Lloyd (now K&L Gates).

Prior to entering the practice of law, Ted worked as a production and research chemist at Sigma-Aldrich Chemical Co. He is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he was a space operations officer with responsibilities for satellite launch, command and control and served as mission controller for the successful launch of Milstar Flight 2, a billion-dollar military communications satellite. Ted began his military service as a member of the U.S. Air Force Band.
