With a background in mechanical engineering and a talent for problem solving, Sten assists clients with patent prosecution.
Originally, Sten expected to have a career as an engineer, taking a position with the naval shipyard at Pearl Harbor, where he led a team tasked with implementing cold spray technology. As much as he enjoyed the work, he soon realized that he would prefer a more client-focused field with opportunities for client interaction. Sten chose to apply his engineering background to patent law and enrolled in law school.
Sten’s training as an engineer gave him a deeply analytical mindset, preparing him well for a legal career: at its core, law is about solving problems, just as engineering is. Sten quickly found that he especially enjoyed the way intellectual property law combined black and white technical expertise with legal interpretation and argument.
After a season as a summer associate at Husch Blackwell working on issues related to patent and data privacy law and general patentability, Sten joined the firm officially as a full associate. He now assists clients in a variety of industries with the preparation and prosecution of patent applications.
Known as a reliable straight shooter, Sten draws on his own experience working in engineering to understand clients’ day to day world. Clients value the ease of working with him and the excellent results he achieves.
